Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Communications Specialist to join our team at the Police Association of Ontario (PAO). As a key member of our communications department, you will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of our communication strategies and ensuring that all communications are precise, effective, and strategically aligned with our goals.

About the Role

In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for managing our digital presence, creating engaging content across various social media channels, and maintaining our website through WordPress. You will also collaborate with an external strategic communications firm to implement our annual strategic communications plan and ensure alignment with our objectives.

As a Senior Communications Specialist, you will have the opportunity to develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders under the guidance of our Director. You will also support public relations campaigns to improve public perception of the profession and assist in the development of speaking notes and presentations for our President.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and update our website through WordPress, ensuring that content is current and accurate
  • Create strategic, engaging content across various social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) under the guidance of senior staff and in collaboration with our external communications firm
  • Monitor engagement and adjust content as needed to align with our communications goals
  • Act as a liaison between the media and our external strategic communications firm, supporting media inquiries and developing relationships with media personnel
  • Support the creation of internal and external communications in various formats, such as electronic, web-based, and print
  • Assist in the development of public relations campaigns to improve public perception of the profession
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders under the guidance of our Director
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Strong digital proficiency, including experience managing websites and familiarity with social media platforms
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience in professional copywriting, ensuring all communications are engaging and aligned with our voice and objectives
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure all communications are accurate, clear, and error-free
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000-$85,000 per year, depending on experience, plus comprehensive health benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage after the probationary period. OMERS pension plan enrollment is also available.
