Job Title: Professor, Instrumentation and Control Technician – Part Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a part-time professor to teach in the instrumentation and control department at Mohawk College. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective learning environment for students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teach theory and practical application components in instrumentation and control systems.
  2. Create a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both classroom and laboratory settings.
  3. Use a variety of teaching strategies to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
  4. Manage the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
  5. Evaluate, revise, and develop learning resources within the program.
  6. Enhance educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
  7. Apply college values and philosophy to work activities and interaction with others.
  8. Use the college's eLearning system to present curriculum, testing, and online activities.

Requirements:

  1. A Certificate of Qualification as an Instrumentation and Control Technician (447A).
  2. An Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  3. Construction & Maintenance Electrician 309A and/or Industrial Electrician 442A – preferred but not required.
  4. A minimum of five years experience as a Certified Technician/Electrician.
  5. Related teaching experience.
  6. Adult education teaching certificate – preferred but not required.
  7. A post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field – preferred but not required.
  8. Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
  9. Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  10. The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code.
  2. Knowledge of installation methods, especially motor control and Allen-Bradley Rockwell PLC.
  3. Experience with PID control loop tuning.
  4. Understanding of control valve operation and rebuild.
  5. Familiarity with piping and instrumentation diagrams (ISA Standards).
  6. Knowledge of loop diagrams.
