Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation Technician to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As an Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repair duties on instrumentation equipment at our water and wastewater treatment facilities and outstations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance duties on instrumentation equipment, including calibration, testing, and predictive and preventative maintenance.
  • Adjust and inspect process performance and equipment to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Carry out various test procedures to monitor equipment conditions.
  • Proficiently use software applications such as MS Office and asset management software.
  • Maintain logs and records of equipment performance and conditions.
  • Perform housekeeping and janitorial duties in work areas.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner, complying with City of Hamilton Safety Policies and applicable legislation.
Requirements
  • Valid Provincial Instrumentation & Control Technician 447A License.
  • Proven experience in calibration, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and predictive and preventative maintenance duties on instrumentation equipment.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in using maintenance programs for water and wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Ability to obtain Operator-in-training Wastewater Treatment Certificate of Competency, Operator-in-training Wastewater Collection Certificate of Competency, Operator-in-training Water Treatment Certificate of Competency, and Operator-in-training Water Distribution Certificate of Competency within probation period or already possess.
  • Self-motivated with a strong team working skillset, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations, and by-laws affecting the department/section.
  • High level of computer skills in the use of software applications such as MS Office and asset management applications.
  • Valid driver's license, Class 'G' or better, with a point-free driving record.
  • Ability to wear and maintain self-contained breathing apparatus and pass a full face mask fit test.
  • Ability to report on-call, outside normal work hours, and to report to various work sites.
  • Ability to work in varying climatic conditions with potential exposure to trace amounts of treatment chemicals, sludge, and water & wastewater.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs) when required.
