Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Actuarial Expert to join our team at Optimum General Inc. in Montreal, Canada.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing diversified actuarial calculations and analyses relating to the valuation of policy liabilities and solvency ratios, with a good knowledge of current regulations and standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Calculate actuarial reserves in accordance with current standards, and analyze variations.
  • Calculate and analyze variations in equity requirements.
  • Prepare annual budgets and analyze variances from actual results on an ongoing basis.
  • Be familiar with the company's capital standards, reserve bases and pricing models in order to make appropriate financial projections.
  • Participate in the company's various experience studies.
Computer System Updates
  • Responsible for updating and validating the AXIS evaluation system with regard to the codification of parameters used for various calculations, and for ongoing monitoring of ongoing modifications.
  • See to the development and/or improvement of work methods and IT tools, and propose innovative solutions.
Technical Support / Internal Customer Service
  • Support other team members in achieving the department's objectives.
  • Support other departments (risk management, accounting, underwriting, administration, etc.) and provide technical advice or advanced analyses as requested.
  • Participate in calculations and analyses to be provided to our retrocessionaires.
Requirements / Skills Needed

Experience / Education:

  • University degree in actuarial science or mathematics.
  • Title ASA and (5) years of proven experience in a similar position.
  • Very good knowledge of the insurance and/or reinsurance market.

Qualities / Skills:

  • Very good command of English and French, both spoken and written.
  • Great organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Special analytical skills and a high level of cooperation.
  • Excellent programming and data handling skills (Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of AXIS, an asset.
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17, an asset.
  • Knowledge of US STAT and Solvency II, an asset.

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience.
