Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Licensing Compliance Officer to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our Licensing section, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with various by-laws and regulations related to business licensing, zoning, property standards, and other related areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and enforce compliance with licensing, zoning, property standards, and other related by-laws and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations to identify potential non-compliance issues and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide education and guidance to business owners and operators on licensing and by-law requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to resolve complex issues and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and present evidence in court and at licensing tribunals as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to investigations and enforcement activities.
Requirements
  • Previous law enforcement experience or relevant education in law and security administration or police foundations.
  • Completion of the Ontario Property Standards Association of Ontario Basic Course (Level I) or the ability to complete within one year in the position.
  • Successful completion of the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer's Association's Foundations and Advance courses would be an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret and apply by-laws and legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
