Environmental Sustainability Specialist

Your primary responsibilities will include implementing, monitoring, and reporting on environmental programs, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with site standards, permits, approvals, and federal and provincial legislation. You will also be responsible for coordinating logistics for field programs, maintaining databases and data entry in GIS systems, and conducting audits and inspections as required.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about environmental sustainability and responsible mining practices. You will be responsible for verifying QA/QC for external laboratories, providing environmental advice and recommendations, and ensuring 100% compliance with various environmental monitoring programs.

**Key Responsibilities:**
* Implement and monitor environmental management and monitoring plans
* Coordinate and ensure timely reporting of all required internal, corporate, and governmental reports
* Maintain databases and data entry in GIS systems
* Coordinate and conduct audits and inspections as required
* Organize and carry out sampling schedules for all environmental programs
* Coordinate the day-to-day activities of environmental field survey crews
* Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with Government sampling and monitoring criteria
* Oversee hazardous waste management and disposal to ensure compliance with site standards and legislation
* Verify QA/QC for external laboratories
* Provide environmental advice, recommendations, and act as Consultant on various projects
* Ensure 100% compliance with various environmental monitoring programs
* Maintain spill response plans and spill report registry
* Supervise and assist in the containment and clean-up of environmental spills on site
* Maintain site WHMIS compliance and SDS database
* Assist in conducting industrial hygiene surveys for air, noise, and collecting samples for analysis
* Update policies and procedures as part of Environmental Management System
* Participate in preparation of annual budget for environmental programs
**Qualifications and Skill Requirements:**
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Biology with a minimum of 2-3 years technical experience in the environmental field in the mining industry
* Very familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act
* Solid understanding of Environmental legislation
* Technical knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
* Proficient in GIS software and Microsoft Office
* Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather
* Valid Class G driver's license
* Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and extended hours in order to facilitate field baseline programs
