Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment at our state-of-the-art shingle plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on pump, gearboxes, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other production machineries.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices and using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts and using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, and straightedges.
  • Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.
  • Assist with planning and closing the loop on work orders in Maximo.
  • Record parts and materials used, and order or create requisition for new parts and materials as necessary.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Industrial Mechanic License 433A (Red Seal Certificate of Qualifications)
  • Full set of metric standard tools
  • Exposure with mechanical devices, pneumatic controls, and welding/cutting
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to read mechanical drawings
  • Able to work shifts, extended hours, and weekends
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
  • Able to walk and/or stand 70-90% of the shift
  • Able to work at heights and in confined spaces
