About the Position:

The BC SPCA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the Surrey Animal Centre. As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional animal care and attention to detail in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kennels, runs, and cat cages.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a positive and harmonious atmosphere among staff and volunteers, enhancing team performance.
  • Assist with the front office duties, including telephone reception, answering counter inquiries, and performing general office routines and record keeping.
  • Support the adoption process, including receiving animals for surrender and performing all adoption procedures.
  • Collaborate with other shelter personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter and maintain a high level of standards to portray the image of the SPCA as a compassionate and caring organization.
Secondary Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the coordination of volunteer work and support the team in achieving our goals.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
  • Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the Branch's warrant area in general and the Shelter's warrant area in particular.
  • A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with the necessary front office routines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize demands on time.
