About this Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Civil Project Manager to join our team at Black & McDonald Limited. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating assigned projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide leadership for assigned projects in regards to cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contract performance.
  2. Prepare and submit project estimates and negotiate all changes in scope as required.
  3. Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards as per company policy and contract specifications.
  4. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders, including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community.
  5. Plan, prepare, monitor, and manage construction schedules and milestones.
  6. Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable standards, including HSE regulations, company policies and procedures, and contract requirements.
  7. Monitor and report on progress, labour productivity, work outcomes, budget, cost, and forecast.
  8. Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants.
  9. Review work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies.
  10. Ensure material and equipment are available to tradespersons.
  11. Ensure monthly cost forecasting and checklists are completed accurately and on time.
  12. Ensure accurate productivity reports are completed weekly.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience as a Project Manager in the construction industry with a contractor.
  • 10+ years of working in the utilities and/or civil industry.
  • Proven experience in estimation, strategic procurement, and negotiation.
  • Experience in commissioning, integration, and applying QA/QC to projects.
  • Experience in mentoring junior and intermediate project managers.
  • Experience with medium and high voltage utility work, roadway lighting, traffic signals, and substations is considered an asset.
  • Experience with P3 and/or design-build projects is considered an asset.
  • Experience in WWTP projects is considered an asset.
Education and Certifications
  • Degree or diploma in one of the following is considered an asset:
    • Red Seal Journeyman or Electrical Technologist Degree
    • Construction Management
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
  • The following certifications/designations are considered an asset:
    • P.Eng. designation
    • PMP designation
    • Gold Seal Certification
    • Construction safety certifications
  • Experience as a tradesperson in the electrical trade may substitute for education requirements.
