Job Overview

We are seeking a Water Safety Professional to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety of our members, participants, and staff while providing high-quality aquatic programs.

About the Role

The Water Safety Professional will be responsible for guarding the pool, teaching swimming lessons, and building meaningful relationships with our members and colleagues. They will also be required to develop lesson plans, administer evaluations, and ensure program design meets the needs of all participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guard the pool and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner
  • Build meaningful relationships through daily interaction with members, visitors, and colleagues
  • Develop lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants
  • Ensure program design, layout, and offerings meet the needs of all participants
  • Lead program delivery, ensuring contents meet criteria and outline
  • Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures
  • Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
  • Remain flexible and willing to learn new skills, alter shifts
  • Attend staff meetings, planning sessions, and training events as required

Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)
  • CPR level C and AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
  • Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent
  • National Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent
  • Experience as a Swimming Instructor - preferred
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
  • Advanced leadership courses are an asset
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references

Estimated Salary Range

$21.48 per hour
