Job Title: Solutions Development Supervisor

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Solutions Development Supervisor to join our team at the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). As a key member of our AppDev team, you will be responsible for overseeing the performance and operation of our technical team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet our customers' needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general supervision to the technical team, ensuring the performance of all personnel, services, and technology.
  • Coach staff and provide feedback to improve their productivity, customer relations, and career development.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback, and ensure staff receive appropriate training and development.
  • Ensure the health and safety needs of employees are met.
  • Communicate IESO policies and procedures, and ensure adherence to established standards, processes, and programs.

Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate with internal and external customers to ensure unit products and services are delivered as expected and within budget.
  • Negotiate delivery schedules with internal and external customers, considering IESO priorities.
  • Communicate the impact of the unit's work product to all stakeholders.
  • Provide qualified resources to support assigned work by aligning available skills to customer needs.
  • Work with customers to identify their IT needs and provide solutions to support their business processes.
  • Provide technical advice and consulting to line business or IT staff to troubleshoot or enhance systems.
  • Ensure the proper technical integration of systems, applications, and databases in the overall system architecture.
  • Participate in and ensure documentation is developed for safe and effective use of equipment.
  • Participate in and ensure documentation is developed for operations of a delivered solution.
  • Provide project management for small to medium-sized departmental projects, ensuring proper and timely scheduling and allocation of resources.

Continuous Improvement Responsibilities:

  • Identify areas of improvement and lead the team in implementing identified improvements.
  • Participate in establishing best practices for development, design, and ongoing support.
  • Establish and maintain development tool sets based on current and future needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends related to tools and platforms used by the technical team.

Vendor Engagement:

  • Work with vendors in scoping and delivering services as required by internal and external customers.
  • Participate in vendor selection processes.
  • Participate in oversight of vendor development practices, including code validation guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Requires knowledge of systems development, system operations, and general project management principles.
  • Requires knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports and presentations.
  • This knowledge is normally acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university education in the appropriate field or discipline, or by having the equivalent level of education.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with resource management and project management.
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with internal management teams and external clients using strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and supporting applications with Java and J2EE technologies.
  • Experience with data integrations between systems, including APIs, ETL/ELT.
  • Experience with DevOps and/or DevSecOps.
  • Experience and/or understanding of Microservices and application containerization.
