Director, Enterprise Architecture

Green Shield Canada (GSC) is a leading health benefits provider that is revolutionizing the healthcare industry. As a Director of Enterprise Architecture, you will play a key role in shaping the company's technology strategy and driving digital transformation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering and experience in enterprise, solution, and application architecture. You will be responsible for leading the planning, design, and operationalization of digital and modernization/migration of core capabilities and technologies. This includes managing the EA practice across the broader enterprise and communicating the architecture strategy and approach across the organization.

The Director, Enterprise Architecture will report to the VP of Development and Modernization and will focus on understanding and applying emerging, new, and existing technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models. You will lead the analysis of business and operating models, market trends, and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise's business strategy and architecture.

The successful candidate will have excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. You will be a trusted and respected thought leader who can influence and communicate effectively with business and IT leaders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop value proposition and communicate/educate organization on the EA practice
  • Create implementation plan for enterprise architecture based on business capability modeling, strategy, and requirements
  • Collaborate with Solution and Application Architects, cloud Architects, Security Architects, and other IT and Business leaders to ensure alignment with cloud objectives while enabling business goals and supporting technologies
  • Facilitate business and IT alignment through business capability modeling, driving the organization's business strategy and balancing innovation and growth
  • Lead the analysis of business and operating models, market trends, and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on the enterprise's business strategy and architecture

Requirements:
  • University degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis, or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • Experienced in enterprise, solution, and application architecture, with strong background as a software engineer
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT, and predictive analytics
  • Technology competency areas – Cloud Native, Microservices, and APIs, Reactive Systems, Analytics & Streaming Pipelines, DevOps – CI/CD
  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, and risk management
  • Understanding of agile principles, methodologies, and frameworks, scaling at enterprise level
  • Understanding of cloud-based architectural patterns and solutions at an enterprise level
  • Organizationally savvy, and ability to navigate obstacles and drive alignment
  • Balance the long-term ('big picture') and short-term implications of individual decisions and organization goals
  • Capable and able to balance between foundational EA (1: renovating the core of the IT estate, ensuring efficiency and predictability) and future state EA (2: business and operating model design, technology innovation, speed, agility, and flexibility to meet the organization's needs)
  • Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and communicate effectively with business and IT leaders
  • Comfortable, experienced, and accomplished at working with business executives, and able to push back in a professional and diplomatic way
  • Highly innovative with aptitude for foresight, systems thinking, and design thinking
  • Practical in approach to problem solving and decision making
