Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $170,000-$185,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. As a management personnel plan (MPP) position, this role comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-paid life insurance ($100,000), health, dental, and vision insurance with largely paid monthly premiums, and a generous retirement plan through CalPERS.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Associate Vice President of Financial Services to provide effective management and oversight of financial services at Cal State East Bay. This includes accounting, student financials, procurement, accounts payable, and the University Bay card program. The successful candidate will lead a diverse financial support staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and compliance-driven excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Management: Provide overall leadership and management to the Financial Services team, supervising direct reports and their staff, creating professional development plans, and promoting continuous process quality management improvements.
  2. Accounting and Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely accounting functions, general ledger transactions, and reporting, maintaining compliance with University, CSU, CA, and federal regulations.
  3. Student Financial Services: Oversee receiving payments, disbursements, billings, debt collection, advising, fee waivers, and sponsored registration.
  4. Procurement and Support Services: Manage contracts, purchase orders, procurement cards, and other related financial processes.
  5. University Clubs and Bay Card: Administer student club accounts and the University Bay Card program.
  6. Strategic Planning: Develop, update, maintain, and implement a strategic plan for the Financial Services team aligning with the division's goals and initiatives.
  7. Representation: Actively represent Financial Services and Administration and Finance on designated university and/or auxiliary committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Management, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible finance and administration experience, with at least 7 years of direct responsibility for managing financial and administrative functions.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation principles, accounting and budget technology systems, and federal and state regulations related to cost accounting.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, written, and oral communication skills, as well as ability to function in a complex, high-demand environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
  • Experience working in higher education, particularly in the California State University system.
