About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for the front-line supervision of employees, day-to-day operations, meal service and delivery, and ensuring safe and efficient operations of assigned work areas.

The Supervisor will act as an ambassador and liaison within the integrated model of Nutrition and Food Services and be a resource and leader. As part of the management team, they will assist in carrying out administrative and operational functions within designated area(s) and in accordance with NFS strategic plan.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food service or clinical nutrition management, with a minimum of two years of experience in a health care setting. They will possess excellent leadership abilities, staff management, and coaching skills, as well as strong communication and problem-solving skills.

The Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of patient safety through continued quality assurance and improvements, as well as coordination of tasks. They will also be responsible for providing customer-focused service, supporting person-centered care, and delivering customer-focused quality service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Front-line supervision of employees
  • Day-to-day operations, meal service and delivery
  • Ensuring safe and efficient operations of assigned work areas
  • Acting as an ambassador and liaison within the integrated model of Nutrition and Food Services
  • Assisting in carrying out administrative and operational functions within designated area(s)
  • Ensuring patient safety through continued quality assurance and improvements
  • Providing customer-focused service, supporting person-centered care, and delivering customer-focused quality service

Requirements:

  • Completion of a Nutrition post-secondary degree (preferred) or completed recognized course in Food and Nutrition Management required
  • Journeyman Cook Certification is an asset
  • Completion of an Advanced Food Safety Certification and HACCP Training
  • Experience in food service or clinical nutrition management or leadership and operations required, minimum of two (2) years' preferred (recent relevant experience within the last 5 years)
  • Experience preferred in a health care setting and unionized environment
  • Knowledge of and experience in customer-focused food service operations; room service model preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities/staff management/coaching in a unionized environment; Hire, Develop & Retain Solid Performers

  • Travel to other sites or throughout the province is required. Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

What We Offer:

  • $29.91 - $37.38 Hourly
  • Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan
