Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled National Assignment Editor to join our team at CBC/Radio-Canada. As a key member of our newsroom, you will be responsible for coordinating the work of reporters assigned to cover regional, national, or international news for our various platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consult with reporters and network colleagues to determine priority coverage of regional, national, and international news.
  • Encourage reporters to develop their own story ideas and maintain a short-, medium-, and long-term planning calendar in conjunction with the Information Network.
  • Assign stories to reporters and coordinate their work, providing guidance on story angles and additional documentation as needed.
  • Assess the feasibility of producers' and lineup editors' requests, based on production imperatives.
  • Review and vet reporters' items and live hits before they air.
  • Follow up with reporters and assignment editors, providing feedback on their work.
  • Ensure that information aired is accurate and verified in accordance with corporate standards and policies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years' journalism experience or equivalent.
  • Extensive general knowledge, in-depth knowledge of Quebec, national, and international affairs, and newsroom logistics.
  • Detailed knowledge of the digital news production cycle, production techniques, and the various platforms.
  • Superior French-language skills, with proficiency in English an asset.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and think critically about complex issues.
  • Ability to take initiative and be flexible.
