As an Associate Physician (AP) Acute Care with Northern Health Authority, you will serve as a physician extender to physicians and surgeons providing acute inpatient medical or surgical care. You will work collaboratively with the Attending Physician to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and diagnose patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses, diseases, injuries, and functional disorders of all body systems.
- Work collaboratively with the Attending Physician to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Provide consultation to patients and healthcare teams on medical and perioperative care.
- Assess and initiate treatment of acute injuries and illnesses in the Emergency Department.
- Document patient information and treatment plans in accordance with College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines.
- Eligibility for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician – Acute class, under sponsorship of NHA.
- Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or legal ability to live and work in British Columbia.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification prior to commencing orientation and maintenance throughout employment.
- Knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage common medical problems in the medical and perioperative patient.
- Confidence and experience in recognizing and initiating response to emergency situations.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
