About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Planning Associate to join our ScotiaMcLeod team in Montreal. As a key member of our wealth management team, you will play a critical role in providing financial planning support to our dedicated Wealth Advisors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively support the financial planning needs of our Wealth Advisors by conducting in-depth client discovery, preparing and presenting personalized financial plans, and working with the Advisor to implement recommendations.
  • Input client data into financial planning software, build comprehensive financial plans, and provide alternative scenarios or solutions when clients are unable to meet their goals.
  • Identify and communicate referral opportunities to Wealth Advisors, actively track and manage follow-up action plan items, and ensure they are addressed.
  • Champion an integrated and organized approach to planning by collaborating with internal specialists, advocating for advisors to leverage the right planning resources, and triaging clients into the appropriate channel.
  • Contribute to the ongoing professional practice by participating in monthly Total Wealth Planning calls, collaborating with local Senior Total Wealth Planners, and ensuring a consistent product and process is delivered to clients.
  • Provide general support to Wealth Advisors and the team by sharing updates on financial planning trends and strategic recommendations that may benefit clients.
  • Ensure all financial plans are accurate and adhere to Financial Planning Defaults & Standards, and recommend reasonable client-focused strategies.
  • Maintain awareness and currency of the latest legislative and financial industry changes that may affect financial planning techniques.
  • Understand how Scotiabank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles.
Requirements
  • In-depth understanding of the comprehensive financial planning process, including investments, asset protection, retirement, estate planning, and tax issues.
  • College or University degree.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Advanced understanding of financial planning software and ability to model complex strategies.
  • Experience in Total Wealth Planning engagement from client discovery to plan presentation delivery.
  • Experience in a client-facing role with opportunity to provide financial advice.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate in English and French.
  • Strong attention to detail and a results-focused mindset.
  • Canadian Securities Course and/or Life Insurance License is an asset.
