Job Title: Labour Relations Officer

The BC Nurses' Union is seeking a skilled Labour Relations Officer to join our team. As a key member of our labour relations department, you will be responsible for maintaining, enforcing, and interpreting collective agreement provisions for assigned bargaining units throughout British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Advise stewards on the interpretation of collective agreements, labour legislation, union policies, and procedures.
  2. Initiate, present, and resolve issues or grievances.
  3. Present the union's case at third-party hearings.
  4. Negotiate local agreements on matters such as shift schedules and working hours.

You will also identify and address issues of concern to BCNU members, share the organizing of campaigns with stewards and members, and develop, mentor, and advise BCNU stewards and members on how to address their workplace concerns.

Qualifications:
  1. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to utilize the member-centric model.
  2. Extensive experience as an active steward processing grievances and presenting cases to management.
  3. College or university education in an approved Social Sciences, Industrial Relations program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Demonstrated ability to interpret collective agreement language and argue a strong case for the redress of problems.
