About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our team at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. As a key member of our Nephrology department, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and support.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in patient care under the direction of supervising Nephrologist physicians at all times. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations;
  • Performing appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies;
  • Assisting with minor procedures, such as removal of permanent dialysis catheters;
  • Supporting the management of in-patients diagnosed with acute, chronic, and end-stage renal insufficiency;
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans;
  • Collaborating with medical staff and other allied healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care;

In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will also contribute to quality improvement initiatives and participate in educational activities, including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent degree;
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC);
  • Minimum 3 years of PA experience, preferably in general internal medicine and/or nephrology;
  • Strong bedside manner and ability to make emergency decisions quickly;
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills within the interprofessional care team;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills;
  • Evidence of strong mentoring, teaching, team building, change leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills;
  • Ability to effectively deal with conflict situations and proactively resolve issues impacting quality and continuity of care;
