The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled and compassionate Prevention and Diversion Worker to join our team. As a key member of our housing and homelessness prevention program, you will play a vital role in providing support and services to individuals and families in need.
Key Responsibilities- Client Services
- Provide comprehensive client services, including intake, assessment, and case management, to ensure individuals and families receive the support they need to maintain stable housing.
- Develop and implement personalized plans to address housing crises, including short-term case management and community support services.
- Collaborate with community partners to provide referrals and connect clients with mainstream services, including healthcare and income support.
- Work with clients to secure financial assistance and resources to meet tenancy obligations, such as rent and utilities.
- Provide general housing assistance and information as requested.
- Administrative
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, including documentation and case notes.
- Complete applications for the Homelessness Prevention Fund and submit to the agency reviewer for review and approval.
- Collect and maintain data, submitting monthly and quarterly statistics as required.
- Input and upload client information into the City of Kingston's HIFIS database.
- Training
- Participate in mandatory orientation training and ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Complete all required Salvation Army training and sector-specific training.
- Health and Safety
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to Public Health guidelines and The Salvation Army's health and safety policies.
- Seek out ongoing education and resources to enhance knowledge and skills in areas of responsibility.
- Completion of a two-year Community College Diploma in a Social Services or Addictions-related field.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification an asset.
- Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License, personal vehicle required, and insurance.
- Minimum of two years' experience working with individuals and families in poverty, housing and homelessness issues, and/or mental health sectors.
- Understanding of residential tenancy act and role of Landlord Tenant Board.
- Knowledge of community resources for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, or mental health and addiction issues.
- Bilingual in English and French preferred.
- Ability to utilize assessment protocols in the delivery of services.
- Awareness of homelessness and affordable housing issues within the community and Housing First strategies to end homelessness.
- Able to integrate harm reduction and trauma-informed care approaches in daily interactions.
- Effective use of assertive engagement techniques.
- Ability to work within a Trauma-Informed Care setting.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in working in a computerized environment, with strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and mediation skills.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, yet accept direction as required.
