We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at the District of West Vancouver. As a key member of our Human Resources and Payroll Division, you will be responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, programs, and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Create and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures that meet COR requirements and provincial and federal legislation.
- Provide Occupational Health and Safety Expertise: Offer guidance and support to employees and managers on occupational health and safety matters.
- Support Safety Committees: Collaborate with departments and safety committees to ensure effective workplace health and safety practices.
- Assess and Communicate Health and Safety Risks: Identify and communicate health and safety risks to all levels of the organization.
- Provide Innovative Solutions: Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve safety management and efficiency.
- Build Relationships and Networks: Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry associations, other public sector organizations, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure Compliance: Ensure that all practices and procedures comply with legislation, collective agreements, administrative regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Work closely with colleagues within the Human Resources and Payroll Services division to achieve common goals.
- Develop and Deliver Training: Create and deliver occupational health and safety training programs to employees.
- Track and Analyze Safety Data: Collect, analyze, and report safety data to inform decision-making.
- Education and Experience: Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or degree, plus 5-7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Establishing OHS Policies: Proven experience in establishing occupational health and safety policies from the ground up.
- Knowledge of COR Requirements and Legislation: Thorough knowledge of COR requirements and relevant legislation, including the Human Rights Code, Workers Compensation Act, and WorkSafe BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Health and Safety Legislation: Strong knowledge of provincial and federal health and safety legislation.
We offer a competitive salary range of $91,600-103,100 per year, an optional compressed workweek, and excellent benefit and pension plans. You will also have access to employee wellness resources, including mental health supports and discounted fitness programs.
