About the Role

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Department Head for Internal Medicine in the Northern Zone.

  • As Department Head, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the Internal Medicine Medical staff and ensuring compliance with NSHA Bylaws and Rules.

The role provides leadership to site specialty leads, performance management, and physician resource planning for department members.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Represent more than 15 physicians working in Truro, Amherst, and New Glasgow.
  2. Oversee the provision of internal medicine services across the Northern Zone.

The successful applicant may work at any site in the zone.

Service Deliverables
  1. Ensure department members comply with NSHA Bylaws and Rules.
  2. Hold regular department meetings and provide meeting minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director.
  3. Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director.
  4. Work with Specialty Site Leads to maintain service continuity through scheduling practices.
  5. Participate in monitoring standards, quality, and resource utilization of the department.
  6. Provide performance management for all department members.
  7. Support complaint and discipline management for department members.
  8. Support the research agenda within the department.
  9. Participate in clinical services planning for the Zone/NSHA.
  10. Lead recruitment and retention for the department.
  11. Ensure new hire and onboarding processes are completed.
Qualifications
  • MD (with College Certification in Internal Medicine) licensed in Nova Scotia.
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
Compensation

Estimated Annual Compensation: $250,000 - $260,000
