About the Role

The Health Care Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and plays a vital role in providing holistic and quality care to our residents. As an integral member of our team, the HCA will perform their duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, upholding the rights and dignity of our residents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with the care team.
  • Provide comprehensive personal care services, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisting with meals, oral hygiene, and other care duties as needed.
  • Respond promptly to resident call bells and alarms, ensuring timely assistance and support.
  • Monitor and report significant observations, symptoms, and behavioral changes to the care team.
  • Utilize proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aids, such as specialty beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers, to transport residents safely.
  • Assist with lifting and transferring residents using established lifting and safety techniques.
  • Provide nutritional assistance, including meal service, tray service, and assistance with eating as needed. Report any appetite, fluid, or food intake changes or concerns to the nurse.
  • Encourage resident participation in food service and clean-up activities.
  • Perform laundry services for residents' personal clothing as required.
  • Involves residents in organizing and maintaining their living environment, ensuring it meets their needs and preferences.
  • Participate in community and education programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate positively and effectively with all team members and supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
  • Active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
  • Medication Administration Certification an asset.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility an asset.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents, and other cleaning equipment.
