Job Title: Planning Intern

Join Norfolk County's Planning Department as a Planning Intern and contribute to the development of our community's future.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist our Planning staff with various tasks related to municipal land use planning functions. As a Planning Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in planning and development, working closely with our team to support the County's growth and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with development applications and public meetings
  • Conduct research and analysis on various planning topics, including the County Official Plan, Zoning Bylaw, and Secondary Plans
  • Support special projects, process improvements, and report preparation
  • Provide front counter customer service and assist development stakeholders
  • Analyze data and metrics to inform planning decisions
  • Prepare online public information, visualizations, and engagement tools
Requirements
  • College or University student enrolled in a discipline related to Planning, Environmental Studies, or Geography
  • Computer expertise, with a preference for knowledge in design software, GIS, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Understanding of how a municipality functions
  • Ability to visualize concepts and turn them into workable solutions
  • Excellent listening skills and a desire to learn new concepts
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
