Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Planning Intern to join our team at Norfolk County. As a Planning Intern, you will assist in various aspects of municipal land use planning functions, including development applications, public meetings, research, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Planning staff with development applications and public meetings
  • Conduct research and analysis relating to the County Official Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Secondary Plans, and specific topics
  • Help undertake special projects, process improvements, and reports
  • Provide front counter customer service and assist development stakeholder interests
  • Perform data analysis and metrics
  • Potentially prepare online public information, visualizations, or other engagement tools
Requirements
  • College or University Student enrolled in a discipline related to Planning, Environmental Studies, or Geography
  • Computer expertise with preference given to knowledge in design software, GIS, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Understanding of how a municipality functions
  • Ability to visualize concepts and turn them into workable solutions
  • Excellent listening skills, coupled with a desire to learn new concepts
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
