About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our interdisciplinary Allied Health team at Providence Health Care. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with communication and/or swallowing problems.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct intervention for inpatients/outpatients/residents with communication and/or swallowing problems.
  • Use appropriate assessment instruments to determine diagnosis and candidacy for therapy; develop an individualized therapy program.
  • Maintain effective communication with all staff and work collaboratively with the team, patient, and family to identify treatment goals.
  • Liaise with the treatment team regarding patient management through verbal and written reports.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues within the department to ensure quality patient care.
  • Educate patients, families, and/or staff about communication and swallowing deficits and provide suggestions and education regarding ongoing management.
  • Maintain an organized work environment and schedule patient/family treatment sessions according to caseload guidelines.
  • Report and discuss issues or problems relating to patient care with the Professional Practice Leader.
Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of British Columbia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families when assessing and treating communication and/or swallowing disorders.
  • Ability to provide supervision and teaching to students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
