About the Role

The Associate Director, Non-Financial Risk, will contribute to the overall success of the Treasury Central Office in Canada by ensuring regulatory compliance and non-financial risk programs are embedded in business-as-usual. This role will lead the delivery of the Bank's Global Operational Risk Management framework for Group Treasury, inclusive of Third Party Risk Management, NIRA 1b as well as Anti-Money Laundering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of testing strategies and execute on multiple testing plans each year.
  • Be accountable for planning the end-to-end design of testing strategies.
  • Require specialized knowledge of Treasury to perform adequate testing that is often complex due to technical nature of the underlying activities.
  • Utilize expert level influencing skills to manage stakeholders and identify areas of improvement in the operational control landscape.
  • Lead design of Key Risk Indicators and Reporting to GT CORE Risk Committee.
  • Be regularly consulted internally for subject matter advice for Third Party Risk Management and Procurement.
  • Exercise judgement based on procedure and precedents when determining if Treasury initiatives require a New Initiative Risk Assessment, leveraging multi-faceted information.
  • Monitor industry trends.
  • Work autonomously within established procedures and practices.
  • Be asked to lead individual projects or initiatives.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Requirements

  • Understanding of either Treasury activities, or Capital Markets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of First Line Supervision or First Line activities.
  • Understanding of Bank's three lines of defense model for CORE RISKS.
  • Understanding of financial market regulation a plus.
  • Experience working within a Governance and Control environment.
  • Anti-Money Laundering Designation.
  • Previous experience in Operational Risk, Compliance, Risk, or Audit a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute sound judgment.
  • Good written and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence senior people and peers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team depending on the work and assignment.
