We are seeking a skilled Arborist IA to join our team in this exciting opportunity
Job Summary:
This role involves leading a crew responsible for pruning, maintaining, planting, and removing boulevard and park trees. The successful candidate will allocate tasks, check work, and review crew performance while ensuring high-quality results and adhering to safety protocols.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead arboriculture operations crew, allocating tasks and reviewing work to ensure high-quality results
- Respond to public inquiries, participate in preparing presentations, and provide on-the-job training to subordinates
- Perform hazardous climbing and pruning tasks around energized hydro lines and prune boulevard and park trees using power saws and other hand tools
- Operate aerial bucket trucks, climb trees, use ropes and safety harnesses, and operate chipping machines as required
- Plant and remove trees, lift and transplant established trees to accommodate site modifications, and identify diseased or potentially hazardous trees
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Completion of the 10th school grade plus considerable experience in street tree operations and boom truck operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Experience with climbing equipment, rigging techniques, and planting/transplanting techniques
- Certificate of qualification as a Utility Arborist, Level I First Aid Certificate, and Pesticide Applicator's Certificate when required
- Power System Safety Certificate is an asset
- Thorough knowledge of arboriculture methods, standards, and practices, including City and Park Board safety protocols
- Considerable knowledge of tree species growth habits and maintenance requirements
- Working knowledge of arboriculture pests and diseases, integrated pest management practices, and safety procedures
- Skill in operating various power and hand tools used in pruning, planting, removal, cable bracing, pest control, and general tree maintenance
- Able to perform hazardous climbing and pruning tasks at considerable heights and identify hazardous trees
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to assign, check, and review the work of subordinates, participate in conducting performance reviews, and maintain effective working relationships
Compensation and Benefits:
This full-time position comes with an estimated annual salary of $83,000 - $108,000 based on your level of experience and qualifications. You will also have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as pension and retirement savings plans.
