Job Title: Housing Support Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housing Support Worker to join our team at Houselink & Mainstay. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing support services to tenants and participants, promoting housing stability, and enhancing overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Individual Support: Assess tenants' needs, provide coaching and practical support, and refer to services to fulfill unmet needs.
  • Provide Informal Counseling: Offer non-judgmental, recovery-based support on mental health and addiction, interpersonal relationships, life skills, food security, and meaningful activities.
  • Advocacy and Referrals: Provide warm referrals to community services and health services, collaborate with service providers, and advocate for tenants' rights.
  • Prevent and De-escalate Crises: Identify and address potential crises, provide support, and promote tenant safety and well-being.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Tenancy Support: Facilitate unit viewing and orientation, collect income verification documentation, and assist tenants with rent arrears and tenancy issues.
  • Community Development: Organize and facilitate group activities, promote community engagement, and encourage tenants to participate in organizational and community activities.
  • Administration: Maintain accurate records, document tenant interactions, and ensure confidentiality and consent when sharing information.
Requirements:
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Social Services, or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in serving people living in poverty with mental health and/or addiction issues.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, life skills coaching, budgeting, conflict resolution, and crisis prevention/intervention skills.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to Household Pests: Exposure to household pests, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, and some smoking environments.
  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work.
