The Trade Compliance and Tax Analyst plays a critical role in identifying and implementing strategies to improve and streamline trade compliance and indirect tax processes. This position drives Canadian import and tax compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and laws.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustoms Compliance- Conduct customs compliance reviews and audits to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce annual duties and tariffs, leveraging programs such as CUSMA (formerly NAFTA).
- Prepare and submit Post Entry Adjustments, protests, and other correspondence to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
- Audit, track, and trend import broker performance to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Provide assistance during on-site comprehensive CBSA customs audits.
- Research and analyze discrepancies identified during the audit process.
- Classify goods for submission to the CBSA with accuracy and within permitted timelines.
- Review and maintain the material tax code database to ensure proper tax codes are applied to all SKUs in the billing system.
- Collaborate with the IM team on weekly new product setup, reviewing and approving tax codes before uploading to SAP.
- Respond to day-to-day inquiries from the pricing team, territory sales reps, and other departments on provincial sales tax (GST/HST/PST/QST) status.
- Support Customer Service and Account Receivable on customer tax disputes, confirming tax codes according to territory tax rules and legislations.
- Analyze sales reports, identify incorrect tax charges in different territories, update the system, and advise the billing team.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of provincial sales tax (GST, HST, PST, QST) in Canada.
- CSC (Canadian Securities Course) and/or CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) certificates are preferred assets.
- Experience using business analytical skills, including facilitating requirements sessions and documenting activity workflows and business requirements.
- Experience working through details of a problem, overcoming obstacles, and reaching a positive and successful solution through mathematical or systematic operations.
- Experience with SAP is a preferred asset.
