About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technical Specialist to join our team at the Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you will have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of our patients.

This role is responsible for providing technical guidance and support to staff within the designated discipline or area of expertise. You will assist in the development of standardized policies, standards, and procedures in support of practice goals and objectives.

You will also be involved in implementing and communicating planned technical changes to staff and providing feedback as required. Additionally, you will participate in resolving problems and removing barriers, ensuring that area standards are met and safety procedures are followed.

As a Laboratory Technical Specialist, you will provide technical guidance and advice through methods such as demonstrating procedures and work techniques to staff, assisting with facilitating resolutions to technical issues, and monitoring technical activities to ensure area standards are met and safety procedures are followed.

You will also assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the discipline-specific Quality Program and related activities. This includes monitoring internal and external quality control and other quality indicators, making corrections as appropriate, and preparing quality indicator reports.

The successful candidate will have a valid BC driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes. They will also have comprehensive knowledge and recent related experience in laboratory discipline, as well as knowledge of administrative structure and function of laboratories of varying sizes.

A commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, In Plain Sight, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice, and others, is essential.

This role offers a competitive salary of $82,500-$95,000 per year, depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits package, including municipal pension plan, and psychological health & safety programs and holistic wellness resources.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $82,500-$95,000, based on the location in Vancouver, BC.
