Job Summary

The Track Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of assigned territories, ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of railway tracks, and managing a team of Assistant Track Supervisors.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering operations in accordance with CN's operating plan.
  • Supervise a team of Assistant Track Supervisors responsible for rail inspection.
  • Oversee track gangs, track inspectors, and hyrail operations.
  • Enforce compliance with safe work procedures, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines, and CN policies and regulations.
  • Lead employees with clear direction and goals, providing coaching and guidance through regular performance monitoring.
  • Apply collective agreement and company policies by conducting investigations, recommending corrective actions, and responding to grievances.
  • Ensure compliance with Transport Canada rules and regulations.
  • Manage budgets and workforce productivity within CN policies and the Five Guiding Principles.
  • Communicate track condition and daily production information to senior management to inform adjustments.
  • Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, collaborating with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention.
Working Conditions

The role involves working in an office environment and outdoors in various weather conditions, with irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position may require relocation and extensive travel (50%+), with occasional unexpected assignments. The incumbent must be able to manage stress, meet tight deadlines, and respond to emergency situations.

Requirements
  • Safety compliance experience.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Relevant work experience in similar conditions or in a regulatory or safety environment.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Labour Relations experience (interpretation of collective agreements, response to grievances, negotiations with union representatives, discipline, etc.).
  • Experience as an Assistant Track Supervisor and in construction program supervision.
  • Experience supervising a unionized workforce.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Courses and training required for inspection and railroad operations.
