About the Opportunity

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Hygiene Services Coordinator to join our Arts, Culture and Community Services team.

We are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all residents and strive to provide exceptional services that promote health and well-being. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Gathering Place Health Centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers, patrons, and community members accessing health and hygiene services;
  • Supervise volunteers in the delivery of basic health-related services, including laundry, showers, and management of free clothing donations;
  • Monitor patron behavior and ensure adherence to centre rules and standards of behavior;
  • Provide guidance, support, and coaching to volunteers as needed;
  • Assess clients for lice, scabies, and bedbugs, and provide accurate information regarding necessary procedures for treatment needs;
  • Administer basic first aid and maintain applicable records;
  • Clean and replenish supplies in showers, laundry room, and office area;
  • Maintain daily service stats and make referrals to community agencies as needed.

You will work closely with other Health Centre staff and volunteer program staff to address volunteer issues, concerns, and scheduling. The position reports to the Health Coordinator.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A completion of eleventh school grade or equivalent combination of training and experience;
  • A St. John Ambulance Safety Certificate;
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to deal effectively and tactfully with difficult or volatile situations;
  • An ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a larger team;
  • A physical ability to perform duties of the position, including standing, lifting, and bending throughout shifts.
