Job Summary

As a key member of our team, the Environmental Health Officer will play a vital role in protecting the health and well-being of our community. Reporting to the Team Lead – Environmental Health, this position is responsible for carrying out a diverse program of environmental health protection. Using a variety of professional and technical skills, the position reduces the incidence of communicable disease, injury and health hazards; performs technical assessments; provides consultative and education services; ensures that community development does not conflict with a healthy environment; ensures compliance with environment health legislation, policy and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental health assessments and investigations to identify and mitigate health hazards
• Develop and implement strategies to prevent and control communicable diseases
• Provide education and training to the public, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders on environmental health issues
• Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure compliance with environmental health legislation and policy

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline
• Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada)
• Current valid BC Driver's License
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
