Job Title: Director, Carbon Management and Industrial Optimization

Join Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in our mission to drive clean energy technology development and greenhouse gas reduction. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to lead our Carbon Management and Industrial Optimization team.

About the Role:

The Director will be responsible for directing the work of multi-disciplinary research teams targeting different aspects of GHG emission reductions from energy and carbon-intensive industries. This includes advanced energy systems and technologies related to industrial decarbonization, bioenergy, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) together with artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and tools to enhance energy management and drive technological improvement in the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the work of multi-disciplinary research teams to develop and implement technologies that promote the sustainability of Canada's energy and carbon-intensive industries.
  • Establish unique R&D capabilities and an up-to-date knowledge base within the federal government to serve the needs of Canadian stakeholders.
  • Coordinate Canada's R&D efforts with national and international bodies to help Canada meet its commitment to address global climate change issues related to its carbon-intensive industries.
  • Expedite energy technology commercialization for domestic and export markets.
Requirements:
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
  • Experience leading Research & Development (R&D) projects including proposal preparation, resource allocation, budget and project management.
  • Experience in supervising a multi-disciplinary team including scientists, engineers, or technologists in the delivery of R&D projects.
  • Experience using and developing partnerships or networks to leverage resources to deliver R&D projects.
  • Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC).
Assets:
  • Post graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field.
  • Experience in the delivery of R&D projects or programs internationally.
  • Experience authoring technical articles for peer-reviewed technical or scientific journals.
  • Experience chairing standards committees or national/international working groups.
  • Experience conducting or managing R&D in one or more of the following areas: carbon capture, utilization, storage, and transportation; Knowledge of industrial sectors, processes, actual and emerging industrial technologies.
