Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in the Day Surgery/Short Stay Multifunctional department at Alberta Health Services. As a Surgical Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures on an outpatient and inpatient basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-operative assessment, post-operative care, patient education, and discharge planning
  • Collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety, comfort, and well-being
  • Pre-operative evaluation of medical histories, physical, and psychological status, preparing patients while ensuring appropriate consent and pre-operative protocols are followed
  • Medication administration and post-operative monitoring
  • Educating patients and their families around post-operative care and follow-up instructions

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Recent surgical experience within the last 3 years
  • Charge nurse experience
