With a strong commitment to quality and student success, Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join its faculty. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology requires a part-time professor to teach Sample Management in the Chemical Laboratory Technician program.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles. They will utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process and effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deliver curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  2. Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  3. Work independently and demonstrate initiative;
  4. Work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  5. Participate in industry-led or community-based applied research;
  6. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Ontario college system.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (Master's is an asset);
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience;
  3. Working experience in testing laboratories (environmental, water, food industry or in some cases pharmaceutical industry including herbals, botanicals, cosmetics and personal care products);
  4. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies;
  5. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
  6. Proven track-record of life-long learning;
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevant work/teaching experience. Applicants must have the appropriate accreditation or trade certification.
