About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Design Manager to join our Retail B2B team at Lightspeed Commerce. As a key member of our design team, you will play a critical role in guiding a team of talented designers to create innovative and user-centered solutions that drive business impact.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Problem Solving
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and identify highly abstract problems.
  • Develop and execute solutions that meet business needs, while ensuring user-centricity and design excellence.
  • Apply strategic thinking to shape how teams approach new problems and drive business outcomes.
Driving User-Centricity
  • Develop comprehensive design strategies based on quantitative and qualitative data, and work in partnership with product managers to lead problem definition.
  • Facilitate journey mapping and introduce design thinking methods to influence cross-functional teams and advocate for the user.
Embedding Systems Thinking
  • Develop a masterful understanding of design system principles and lead a team in defining and evolving design systems to meet user and industry needs.
  • Create prototypes or support the team to do so, ensuring design excellence and user-centricity.
Coaching and Management
  • Oversee the completion of projects, establish processes to improve efficiency, and nurture key relationships within the company.
  • Supervise contributors on projects, manage workload and backlog across the team, and ensure each designer has a plan to grow and meet their potential.
  • Hold a high bar for quality and craft, and ensure shared outcomes are met.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of industry experience in a people management role on a Design team, with experience in matrix organizations a plus.
  • Foundational design-related education (Bachelor of Design, or Visual Arts, or Architecture, or Industrial Design, or Communication).
  • Acute self-awareness and deep empathy for both the customer and team goals.
  • Tenured, evolutionary perspective on technology, product, and design practices.
  • Applied experience with service design practices and a practice of constantly evolving design process.
  • Appetite and skill for working across all digital and physical manifestations of what we design.
  • Passion for mentoring executives, product managers, and engineers to deliver user-centered solutions.
  • Excellent communication and data visualization skills.
  • Deep curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision.
  • Experience with Agile design sprint methodologies, tools, and processes as well as with the Jira platform.
  • Fluency with product, design, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Google Suite, Miro.
