About the Opportunity

The Automation Control Systems Specialist is a pivotal role within Maple Leaf Foods, responsible for driving the development and implementation of automation strategies across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the automation team to align with the established strategy plan, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Develop and manage change control systems for PLC/HMI, Electrical Drawings, and related documents, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Manage the instrumentation program to meet facility FSQA, regulatory, and operational requirements, guaranteeing compliance and quality standards.
  • Predictive, Preventative, and Proactive maintenance requirements for Controls-related systems will be developed and implemented in line with Reliability Maintenance Program procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to establish strong collaborative partnerships, ensuring timely service and support contracts.
  • Establish and maintain facility controls and electrical build standards in alignment with Corporate Engineering protocols.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Area Leaders to create programs that mentor and develop Reliability support teams, enhancing their knowledge and skills in automated equipment operation.
  • Capable of troubleshooting equipment locally or remotely through VPN access when required; provide guidance to team members as needed.
  • Develop contingency support plans for all automation team members, ensuring adequate knowledge transfer between team members on plant equipment.
  • Ensure equipment level network systems align with Corporate IS protocols and requirements.
  • Support and manage facility MES/SCADA systems, maintaining OEM support contact lists and VPN connectivity.
  • Demonstrate full commitment to implementing Global Standard for Food Safety requirements and processes facilitating continual improvement of food safety and quality management.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering or 15 years of progressive manufacturing operations experience, equipment/system commissioning/verification knowledge, and project execution.
  • Experience in Engineering Change Control Process, Design Reviews, Level 2 Control Systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Implementation and integration of Robotics and Instrumentation expertise.
  • Able to solve complex problems within dynamic environments, providing training/project coaching, building excellence in teams, and motivating others to achieve results.
  • Data-driven decision-maker with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, proven track record as an influential leader who motivates others, demonstrates sound judgment, adaptability, and flexibility.
  • Strong analytical skills with a history of solving complex problems, business, analytical, information system, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of current safety standards and regulations.
