Velma's House 24/7 Safe Space – Support Workers
Salary Range – $21 – $25/hour + Shift Premiums
Part Time (20+ hours/week)
Day, Evenings, Overnights, Two Weekend shifts required/month

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous-led human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
The Opportunity:
Velma's House is an Indigenous led, low-barrier safe space for women and gender diverse folks who are unsheltered, experiencing sexual exploitation or gender based violence. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, Support Workers are responsible for the day-to-day interactions with relatives that are accessing the safe space and variety of resource offered. Our safe space serves a place of comfort, connection, and safety, with an emphasis on meeting the immediate safety needs of those who need it most, when they need it most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Walking alongside relatives that are accessing Velma's House with respect, care, and anticipation that each participant's needs will be diverse and unique;
- Fostering clear, kind, and professional participant relationships;
- Responsible for tracking and maintaining accurate and detailed statistics;
- Planning and implementing relevant workshops and programming;
- Assisting in system navigation;
- Assisting in goal setting, and advocacy work;
- Demonstrating knowledge on strict consent and confidentially policies and procedures;
- Executing organizational safety protocols, incident reports, and donation procedures;
