Geotechnical Tailings Engineer

At WSP Canada, we're committed to growing and developing our expertise in Mining, providing trusted engineering design solutions for clients across multiple industries. Our team is expanding, and we're seeking a Mine Tailings Engineer to join our group in Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities- Drive forward our ambitious plans to enhance our Mine service offering in the province through collaboration with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff.
- Support a wide variety of tailings storage facilities and waste rock spoils projects, including dam safety inspections and reviews, field investigation, laboratory testing and interpretation, design and construction.
- Participate in project tasks such as geotechnical analysis (e.g., stability, seepage, thermal, tailings deposition), interpretation of data, development of recommendations, and preparation of proposals and reports for tailings storage facilities and waste rock spoils.
- Collaborate with mining teams from different disciplines and mentor junior engineers.
- Participate in and promote a safety-first culture.
- 1 to 5 years of relevant experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, post-graduate degree is an asset.
- Eligible to register or currently registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian province or territory.
- Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Be able to work in and/or lead diverse teams and collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams.
- Strong, client-focused project management skills.
- Sound knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve.
- Ability to effectively delegate work.
- French or Spanish language skills (verbal and written) would be an asset.
- Commitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues.
- Advanced experience with MS Excel and VBA customization would be an asset.
- Experience with tailings deposition software (Muk3D) would be an asset.
- Experience with mine planning software (MineScape, MineSight, Surpac), AutoCAD, Civil3D would be an asset.
