Wood's Homes is a leading mental health centre in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to building good mental health and well-being in communities.

About the Role:

The Indigenous Wellness Navigator will support and guide staff and clients in a culturally responsive direction, embodying 'culture as treatment' and 'culture as intervention' in alignment with the Indigenous worldview. This role requires exceptional dedication to high-quality service and adherence to Wood's Homes' Health and Safety Management System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culturally safe and sensitive practices, working with the clinical team to integrate cultural goals into therapeutic plans.
  • Family & Community Liaison: Build resource networks, enhance family autonomy, and support cultural and community connections.
  • File Maintenance and Research: Document practice-based knowledge, maintain records, and support annual reporting.
  • Cultural Leadership and Community Coordination: Engage and support Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous staff to foster community connections and cultural protocol.
  • Health & Safety: Conduct regular safety inspections, report hazards, and embed cultural safety in practice.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related field, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Indigenous Cultural and Ceremonial Practice Knowledge may substitute for formal education.

Skills & Competencies:

Proficiency in cultural knowledge and practices. Strong relationship-building skills, communication, and storytelling abilities. Organizational skills for documentation and electronic record-keeping. Capacity to bridge Indigenous and Western healing practices.
