Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

The Toronto District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team.

About the Role:

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide strategic legal advice and representation to the Board in various legal proceedings. The successful candidate will have expertise in civil litigation, privacy, administrative law, and human rights law, with a strong preference for additional areas of practice including construction/real property law, education law, family law, and corporate/commercial law.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide proactive and strategic legal advice to Board senior staff and departments.
  • Advise and represent the Board in legal proceedings, mediation, and at various tribunals.
  • Negotiate with internal and external parties, and review and draft contracts, agreements, briefs, and public statements.
  • Develop legal resources and deliver training and professional development sessions.
  • Act as a resource for other legal counsel on areas of expertise.
  • Provide leadership and contribute to department goals and initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of developments in relevant areas of law and practice.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the education sector.
