Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Childcare Assistant to provide care and support to children aged 3 and under on Sunday mornings. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing environment that promotes the spiritual development of children and ensures their physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality childcare services to children aged 3 and under, ensuring their safety and happiness at all times.
  • Develop and implement engaging programs that promote the spiritual development of children, in collaboration with our worship team.
  • Supervise and support nursery volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to provide excellent care and support to children.
  • Maintain a clean and organized nursery area, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, ensuring they are informed about their child's activities and well-being.
  • Assist with risk management, monitoring food safety, medication storage, and emergency first aid procedures.
  • Support the spiritual development of children through a well-rounded program with approved curriculum.
  • Be knowledgeable of and support The Salvation Army's Mission Statement.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent part-time position, requiring 3 hours of work per week on Sundays.
  • Exposure to dirty diapers and communicable diseases is possible.
  • Verbal abuse and challenging behavior from children may occur.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs with no assistance from others.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Childcare training course completion or ECE Certificate is an asset.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Up to one year of prior experience in childcare is required.
  • Prior experience providing childcare for children with neurodiversity is an asset.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Successful candidate will need to complete The Salvation Army's Praesidium Abuse Training, Health & Safety training, and update annually.
  • Internal abuse registry check and background checks are required.
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army's Mission Statement.
