Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Student Navigator to join our team at the Mamidosewin Centre. As a Student Navigator, you will play a vital role in providing a welcoming atmosphere and positive experience for students at our centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to faculty, students, and staff, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience.
  • Support students at the Mamidosewin Centre desk, answering inquiries and directing them to relevant services and resources.
  • Conduct campus tours for students, parents, and influencers, showcasing the college's facilities and services.
  • Direct students to services and supports across campus, helping them acclimate to the college and classroom environment.
  • Complete first-level orientation to students on the Brightspace platform, ensuring a smooth transition to online learning.
  • Input data for statistical reports on services and supports provided to incoming students, contributing to the centre's evaluation and improvement.
  • Answer student inquiries about the college experience, student engagement opportunities, and provide timely and relevant referrals to internal resources.
  • Collaborate with other college departments to resolve student challenges, ensuring a seamless experience.
  • Represent the Mamidosewin Centre at Open Houses and other college-wide events, promoting the centre's services and mission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the centre's operations and maintenance.
Requirements
  • Current Algonquin College students registered for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms.
  • Up to six (6) months of practical experience in customer service.
  • Interest in Indigenous culture and practices.
  • Willingness to gain practical experience in customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident in presenting relevant information to students.
  • Able to respond to various inquiries.
  • Comfortable working independently and in groups.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Creative thinking and confidence in using it.
Additional Information
  • Successful candidates' schedules will be flexible around their school schedule and other commitments.
  • The position is required until December 2024, with the possibility of extension throughout future semesters and the summer while enrolled at Algonquin College.
  • Scheduled hours will vary depending on the applicant's timetable up to a maximum of 15 hours per week.
  • Preference will be given to student applicants who identify as Indigenous.
  • Candidates must have deep cultural knowledge of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada, status or non-status, gained through lived experience.
