Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in planning, directing, and coordinating volunteers for multiple programs simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for volunteer management, ensuring compliance with Salvation Army standards.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers to develop and manage budgets, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
  • Liaise with educational institutions and volunteer bureaus to promote volunteerism and attract applicants.
  • Match volunteer skills with program needs, preparing task lists and guiding volunteers.
  • Recruit, orientate, train, evaluate, recognize, and assign work for volunteers, adhering to Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Provide a positive spiritual witness to volunteers, program participants, and the general public through your work, speech, and demeanor.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, tracking, and other relevant data.
  • Develop, review, and revise the volunteer handbook to ensure compliance with Salvation Army standards.
  • Assist with special events, outings, and seasonal activities as required.
Critical Relationship Management
  • Interact with the Community Council/mission board as requested.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, colleagues, departmental managers, Corps Officers, Church congregation, and members.
  • Engage with educational institutions, the general public, and volunteer sourcing organizations.
Managerial/Technical Responsibility
  • Reports directly to the CFS department lead.
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteers, with no direct reports.
Financial and Material Management
  • Manage minor financial matters and resources wisely.
  • Handle small amounts of cash as authorized.
  • Track expenditures within the approved budget.
  • Procure supplies, safety items, and other materials as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Two or more years of community college in a related field.
  • Certificate in volunteer administration is an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driver's abstract.
  • Proof of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain.
  • Abuse prevention course through The Salvation Army.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
