Job Summary:

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Hazmat Technician to join our TEAP III Verified HAZMAT Emergency Response Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical expertise to emergency activations involving dangerous goods, ensuring a swift and safe response.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to HAZMAT emergency responses, including rail, road, and fixed facilities.
  • Perform chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination as required.
  • Organize resources for response situations, including personnel, equipment, and documentation.
  • Ensure emergency response equipment is operationally ready.
  • Collect and maintain relevant information and documentation.
  • Lead safety in emergency response, following GFL procedures and upholding high safety standards.
  • Participate in live training events and specialized projects as required.

Requirements:

  • Ability to be flexible and fulfill on-call and travel requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract; Class 1 or 3 license highly desirable.
  • Experience in handling hazardous materials or emergency response an asset.
  • Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection.
  • Ability to work out of town from time to time.
  • Knowledge of vacuum trucks and power wash equipment an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changes at a moment's notice.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Committed to teamwork and prioritizing safety.
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently within a team setting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions during ER activations.
  • High level of effective communication and transparency.

This is a safety-sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required drug and alcohol testing.
