Faculty of Social and Community Services

The Faculty of Social and Community Services at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join our team as a part-time professor. We require a PhD-qualified individual to develop courses and teach in the Honours Bachelor of Community Mental Health degree program. Teaching assignments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Healthcare and Legal Systems
  • Ethics and Professional Practice
  • Personality Psychology
  • Social Psychology

Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
  1. Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.
  2. Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process.
  3. Effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver program curriculum.
  4. Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning.
  5. Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.
  6. Work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  7. Work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  1. A PhD in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or a related field of study is required.
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies.
  4. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  7. Proven track record of life-long learning.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
  9. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
