Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Paramedic Service is seeking a skilled Communications Officer Trainee to join their team. As a key member of the Communications Branch, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical call taking and dispatching services to the Eastern Ontario Catchment Area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and assess emergency calls, providing medical pre-arrival instructions to callers and deploying emergency vehicles and paramedics as needed.
  • Assign the most appropriate ambulance/resource to respond to emergency situations, providing crews with pertinent information.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, establishing and maintaining relationships with Ottawa Paramedic Service staff and allied emergency services.
Requirements
  • One year of post-secondary education in Emergency Communications, Public Safety, or Health Care.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a customer service field, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates, with Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification desirable.
