### Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a skilled Communication Officer Trainee to join our team. As a key member of our Communications Branch, you will play a vital role in optimizing CACC services, paramedic system improvements, and quality improvement programs. Your primary responsibility will be to provide emergency medical call taking and dispatching services for the Eastern Ontario Catchment Area, ensuring the highest level of quality and accessibility.

### Key Responsibilities

* Receive and assess emergency calls, providing medical pre-arrival instructions to callers and deploying emergency vehicles and paramedics to obtain maximum coverage and efficiency
* Assign the most appropriate ambulance/resource to respond to emergency situations, providing pertinent information to ambulance crews
* Work effectively in a team environment, establishing and maintaining relationships with Ottawa Paramedic Service staff and allied emergency services
* Possess superior data entry, typing, and keyboard skills, with the ability to read, interpret, and understand policies and procedures

### Requirements

* One year of post-secondary education in Emergency Communications, Public Safety, or Healthcare
* Minimum of 4 years of experience in a customer service field (face-to-face or telephone)
* Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
* Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification course is desirable
* Current Emergency Medical Responder certificate (EMR) is desirable
